The American Pharmaceutical Group

Results
  • Established good working relations with Department for International Development and other departments. The situation has been transformed, with little or no current criticism of the industry from the Government.
  • Been invited into the heart of Government policy-making. The APG and two pharmaceutical companies were asked to join a new Industry-Government Forum on Access to Medicines, involving three Government departments, to meet regularly, consider policies and commission work.

Challenge

The American Pharmaceutical Group (APG), comprising the major US pharmaceutical companies in the UK, established a Workstream in 2005 to improve the developing world reputation of the industry.

Solution

With Fleishman-Hillard as its secretariat, the Workstream developed position papers on the main issues, published a brochure setting out what companies were already doing in the developing world, responded to Government consultation papers, and carried forward a consistent programme of contacts with officials, Ministers, MPs, experts and NGOs.
